First the apps, then the phone. I see what you’re doing, Facebook.

Lots of generalisations there. Diarrhoea cleanup… really?
From your description sounds like you are using G+ like Twitter. I believe Google+ was meant to be in the same vein as Facebook for keeping in touch with friends. If you view it as an ‘interest network’ rather than a social network that’s fair enough but that would mean Facebook is indeed the better platform for actual social stuff.
I want to know more about your use case though. How often do you use hangouts and the other social features. Do you use it to arrange events and have groups? Or is it just Google reader with comments?

Sorry but these services are valued on their content so I cannot see how Google+ is superior. Less people use it and the ones that do seem to be using it passively. G+ is like a nice looking shop with no inventory.

Waiting to see what happens with the iMac update, but some friends will be extremely happy to hear the news. Holding out on a purchase for half a year isn’t fun.

And David still thinks that’s too high for what you’re getting. I would have thought Samsung would have been able to meet a $399 price tag without making as many sacrifices — isn’t the new Transformer the same price?

I agree that you should be able to remove apps from the launch bar. Launchpad is good for new users, as they’ll likely be coming from an iPhone. The only aspect of iOS-ification that deeply concerns me is what happened to exposè/mission control. Spaces have gone downhill.

The difference I don’t get is that the PC industry allowed multiple competitors to make money, even if the margins were thin. Even though some went out of business, we still had companies like Dell, HP, Packard Bell competing for years.
Yet in the mobile industry only Apple, Samsung and HTC are making profits. Looks like this space will be far more consolidated than the PC was.

It’s like when Panasonic introduced the ‘hump’ on their GF-series. A major step back in terms of design, but I guess if there were such different variants for the SII then the SIII should be similar in that respect.

What about the hypocrisy of the old’ “competition is good” line spouted by every Android fan and his dog and now suddenly two OSs are enough? There’s hypocrisy on both sides believe it or not.

They sell other people’s stuff – what else could you expect? They’re just ticking along, using whatever cash they build up to acquire whatever they view is relevant to their strategy*. That said, they did recently buy a company that supplies assembly robots – that could be big.
… * I’m not so sure what their strategy is tbh.

Okay.
So knock off the Playbook, Kindle and Touchpad. Say there’s 22 million Android tablets in circulation. Surely there aren’t so many different ones to choose from that there were not a few million sellers? It doesn’t quite add up IMO.

This 40% number gets thrown around a lot and I’d just want to see a split by device or at least have knowledge about which Android tablets are selling? Surely if it was anywhere near 40% Google would be crowing so why aren’t they.

While Android has done well in bringing competition and gave people who don’t want iPhones a viable alternative, you do have to wonder if it will prove to be a real money maker for Google. I know why they did it, just wondering if there are any regrets over at Mountain view.
Of course Google will be minimising these numbers for the purpose of this case.

“
Google forecast that it would double the number of phones to 40m by year-end and make some $278.1m in revenue from Android: $158.9m on ads and just $3.8m on app sales. That’s a staggering gap between ads and app revenue, even accounting for the 70 percent of app revenue that goes to developers, and Google expected the delta to widen; the company forecast making $840.2m from Android mobile ads in 2012 vs just $35.9m on apps sales. The company clearly saw this as a problem: Rubin listed “Market: low rate of app purchases, policy issues” as a “lowlight” for Android.
Android is winning."
There you go.
