Why don’t people get this?
- Lithium is a “rare” earth metal whose mining/production is confined to mostly China, Bolivia, and in small quantities elsewhere. There for diversifying materials is necessary, unless we want yet another resource addiction.
- The use of batteries is skyrocketting and will continue to grow, especially with plugin vehicles becoming more popular and devices shipping more energy dense batteries. This gives us a plan B to meet that growing demand.
Now really the best solution is being able to scale down fuel cells, both in size and price. But that seems to be a ways off.
