Did you really expect timely updates from a company that has a history of slow updates AND who has a billion different variations that they also need to work on?
Whenever they do get around to it, this will probably be the last update. (former Samsung user)
I really cannot wait for the Nexus tablet so we don’t have to deal with this BS anymore. It’s clear that Samsung is all about pushing hardware but couldn’t care less about keeping customers updated AFTER you purchase their devices. Sadly, the majority of owners won’t even be aware that updates are out there.

They had already announced that months ago.
The point is WHEN. Is it really good news that you’re months behind tablet maker Asus even though Samsung has more resources at their disposal? (being such a large company)
Updates are less great when they’re months behind the competition. I doubt any past Samsung versions will ever get another update after this one. (whenever they do decide to update)

I mean, the carriers do I have to do some testing for bugs.
As a Tmo Vibrant owner, I’ve seen the worst from OEM’s and carriers. There really is no incentive to push updates when a lot of users are clueless about updates to begin with.
I like the direction Google is going. I like the current Nexus but the pentile display and average camera bothers me. I hope Google actually sells their next Nexus directly from the Play store to begin with and not wait months to start selling it unlocked.

And, they put most of their software resources on the NEXT phone. So, again, good luck seeing any timely updates. Past purchases are worthless to them. (and they’re kind of right since a lot of people are so unaware about what software is out there)

That is what I’m always worried about with Samsung. They set lofty goals by releasing a variant to every carrier out there and then have update issues because of how many variants they need to update.
Then, they blame the carriers for getting in the way when Samsung chose to spread their resources thinly across each variant in the first place. They have to recode and program each variant’s specific hardware and carrier software. It takes time but it’s a lot easier to do when you only have 1 or 2 variants — not when you have 10’s. This is what happened with the Galaxy S. At some point, they’ll just give up and blame some sort of outdated hardware/software design. They blamed TOUCHWIZ for not being able to upgrade the original Galaxy S line. Touchwiz, the crap THEY put on it.
Samsung doesn’t care about past purchases. They only care about volume. A Nexus is fine because Google handles the software. Here, Samsung “handles” it instead which is such a put off since they’re obviously overburdening their programming team. No way these will get timely updates — if they get updates at all. (past maybe 1 update)

It’s been 5 years since then.
Mobile internet since then has become more restrictive if anything. Plans have become more expensive AND very few carriers actually have “unlimited internet” that isn’t capped.
