Reading comprehension is your friend. So is some basic understanding. I was OBVIOUSLY talking about kinect controls in games being required. You’re OBVIOUSLY talking about system controls. The two are very much separate. You are an idiot if you think MS hasn’t put the kinect all over the OSs, and you’re a further idiot if you think MS will also shoehorn kinect controls into games where it doesn’t belong.
And you’re even more the fool for thinking that kinect-specific games won’t exist. That’s also a nice assumption on your part about how I will never use it. Because you know me, what I’ll buy, and how I’ll use it. Good for you. Maybe you should just be concerned with your own affairs. Because if you live your life the same way you structure an argument, things probably aren’t going so well for you.
But like I said, it can very well be a problem in the beginning. It’s nice that you apparently skipped over my last paragraph, and decided to try and convince me that something I don’t think is awful is, in fact, awful. If you don’t want to buy one, here’s a news flash: I DON’T CARE. Don’t come to me with your terrible arguments on why I’m so obviously wrong.
I’m not against an actual debate of merits and shortcomings from all camps, but these threads are anything but.
The only reason I post in topics like this is to make some sort of attempt to temper hyperbole and squash misinformation spread by the ignorant like you.

One could, if one were stupid.
Nobody said that kinect controls are required for anything. It will happen, sure. It happened with the Wii a lot in the beginning, and the same with the stupid accelerometer in the sixaxis. But games that don’t need kinect controls won’t use them.
I know a ton of people, on this site, who use Netflix on their 360 because of two words. “Xbox, pause.”
The original kinect can see at least four times as many pixels as it’s allowed to on the 360 due to the older systems. They Eye will get cursory first party support, but not a lot beyond that. In the same way that Nintendo was the only real supporter of Motion+, the Eye won’t see nearly as many cool things as the Kinect, just because the Kinect is guaranteed to be there.
It’s a choice between consoles. Just make your choice and let’s not all be idiots about the whole thing. I don’t care what you buy, or what you think about what I buy. As long you have fun with yours, I’ll have fun with mine, and we’ll just be happy people that don’t have these moronic discussions.

For me and my toro, running lagfix every few days along with keeping a good amount hibernated in greenify, and using AOKP milestone 1 and AK v.256 with the min screen on at 525, I’ve managed a very pleasant experience with very few jitters. that’s the bulk of what i did in the last few months to stablize the experience.
I’m really close to jumping to the “Shiny” ROM for ultimate smoothness, but there are still one or two features of AOKP that aren’t replicated by apps. Unless I just buy Tasker and Lightflow. I might have get at least Tasker.
I also had to give up Dashclock. That made me sad.

It was actually a 10% discount on Nook tablets during an “Educator Appreciation Days” promotion. The Verge called it a fire sale, and even used the line “Fire sale after fire sale” as a byline.
So yeah, the staff promotes this type of idiocy.

You make a good point, but I don’t see how a chromebook justifies itself any better than the Surface RT.
Any interface with the necessary educational resources is good, in my book. iPad, Surface RT, Chromebook, actual computers, it doesn’t matter. If the kids are learning what they need to in ways that will help the knowledge stick.

I get where you’re coming from, and I’d love to see the moderators just squash way more trolls from all camps.
However, the whole “hate on Microsoft” thing that the internet loves to do needs some counter-balancing. I’m basically saying that this particular situation is self-wrought.
I’m going to make a up a statistic here, but I feel good saying that ~90% of MS haters are doing so from a Windows machine. That might be different on a site like anandtech, but most of the time people are just hopping on a bandwagon.
Windows 8 is a fine product, and it improves on 7 in some key ways and introduces some great stuff for power users. “Modern” can be avoided 98% (again, made up) of the time, and 8.1 is shaping up very nicely. Also, just use the start screen like the freaking menu! Organize the thing! Pin crap to your taskbar! Windows key + start typing to search! People were doing it in 7, just do it again. XP wasn’t great until SP2, let’s not forget that. And if you want a “Steambox” but not an Xbox One, you’re a hypocrite, it’s as simple as that. And Office is the de facto suite, period. Yes, light work and basic projects can get by fine on alternate products. I understand that. But when it gets time to do something serious, you use Microsoft Office.
But the internet’s got to hate on something, and it’s MS. These users that you’re against is simply the counter-balance to the oddly disproportionate amount of hate MS gets from the sites themselves.
When Surface Pro behaves exactly like the 11" in key areas of complaint like battery life and available storage without a peep in Apple’s direction because Apple and a hinge, something’s not quite right.

Including it by default unlocks possibilities.
Also, Batman AC for an interesting use of rumble.
Not including it automatically relegates it to gimmick status, and while there will still be a small number of excellent titles that utilize the Eye, I doubt that anything amazing can ever come of it because the ambitious projects can’t be green-lit on something a small percentage of ps4 owners will have.
Not a defense of the Xbox One’s choice, per se, just the flip side of the coin. By not including the Eye by default, Sony has severely limited the Eye’s and the DS4’s potentials.
For an example, not including a hdd in every 360 severely limited how the hdd was utilized by the console. That was MS’s biggest mistake with this generation, in my opinion.

I fail to see how this would “completely mess up their update cycle.”
A slower cycle is a win all around, even if we as consumers don’t a new toy for a little while longer.
It’s possible that we won’t be presented with 4.3 at this point, but I don’t think so. ICS and JB were both fairly large, and everyone knows 4.2 needs some serious housework. I think it will still be 4.3. I haven’t seen android versions show up in server logs that weren’t later presented, though.
We only jumped from 2 to 3 for tablets, and from 3 to 4 to unify it all again. There’s no big reason to jump version numbers all of a sudden. It may not be as flashy, but it’s simply not as necessary, either.

I’ve read plenty of walls of text on the subject, and I won’t bother to read another. The Ouya is misplaced, mismanaged, and not the future of anything. The kinds of people that want to emulate old games on their TV have been doing it for years. Streaming media? Buy a Roku or AppleTV. Very few Android games will translate well, and again, without the Play Store, it was dead before it began.
With that said, I do wish them success on their venture. I just don’t see it being anywhere nearly as big a deal as people think. And reviews of shipping (production, not backer) hardware/software aren’t painting pretty pictures, either. Although backers really got the short end of the stick. They were supposed to get first copies of the real deal, not the crap they received.
Comment
You disagree with tech nerds who are spoiled for choice, but are agreeing with millions of people buying the thing.
What’s your point?
Comment
I don’t see the point of it or the Ouya.
That MOJO could be interesting. Play Store access is a must. I’d have more faith in the Ouya if it had the Play Store.

How you managed getting recommended for being completely off base, again, proves my point.
