Without getting too technical. GDDR5 is faster and has higher bandwidth. It’s also more expensive to make. GPU’s usually use GDDR memory for that reason.

You gotta specify the type of memory. GDDR5 on the PS4 is way superior to DDR3 on the Xbox One.

you don’t have to use circles on google+ just post your post to public. 90% of my posts are to public. When I have private things I select a circle.

I’m pretty sure you will see new versions of the Google Apps such as youtube when the new version of android is announced. They have historically done those things in conjunction or in quick succession. Patience.

So facebook didn’t go through a period of changing their layout design every couple of months? They most certainly did, and still make major changes (consider the search bar and the recent news feed change. Not to mention that Timelines as in profiles are only about a year old). This is how things are done. Services evolve. Huge userbases mean that sometimes you have to break things to fix them. But then again you are free to not use Google products. I assume you still use them because they are superior to everything else.

My Google Voice number also rings my computer. I use the Hangouts Chrome extension (ex google talk extension). It rings as a hangout from a number and my call comes through as a hangout (video). As far as initiating calls from gmail, they seem to have gotten rid of one of the redundant places to do that. You could initiate from gmail or from the voice web page. The functionality is still there, they are integrating google voice.

Yea, they quietly said G-TV was being updated to 4.2 so it could get the newer, fuller chrome app. I wish they had something ready, but to be honest there was already almost an overload of new things at I/O. There’s still so much they are rumored to be doing before the end of the year, I wonder if they will add another event or just grow the fall event where they launch nexus phones.

Why? Because the major differences you get out of cellphone cameras come down to the jpeg algorithms used to set the pictures up. Contrary to common belief, the sensors are essentially the same in each generation with small upgrades in between generations. Apple makes a “better” (and by better I mean what you are more used to) rendition of the scene. The curve is set a certain way, the black and white points are set a certain way, and you are used to seeing it that way. The software even sets things like color rendition, how much red how saturated it is, etc.
Spend some time with the GS4 camera and how you think about photos and how you shoot will adjust. Or go back to what you know and love. Or, run all your photos through something like snapseed and edit it instead of just taking what the manufacturers algorithms pump out.

Yea… They’ve had one for a couple of years now. It’s called Picasa. Granted, it’s being phased out but it syncs pictures directly to the cloud. I’m pretty sure it will be replaced with a Google+ Photo branded Chrome Packaged app sometime before the year is out though.

They work in the browser also. I had to uninstall and reinstall the plugin a couple of times, but it’s finally working right. Also works in Google+ window. My gmail hasn’t switched over yet so nothing there.

emoji are app only. they are in the same style as the emoji supported by android 4.2 and up though so maybe we’ll see a better system wide support in the next android update.

Wait… You argue that no one uses Google+ but then ask for cross platform BBM? Do you just know a lot of people that still use blackberrys? I’m confused. There’s no evidence that people will hop onto bbm if they don’t have a blackberry. Can you really count on nostalgia that far? Who knows. We’ll see.

Hangouts seems to be backwards compatible with Gtalk. I’ve had a number of conversations with people who have yet to update and it works fine. I’ve even coached people on how to update and it works fine. This is only for one on one conversations however. Group chats do not seem to be cross compatible. Gtalk group chats just don’t show up in hangouts and vice versa.

I think the thing is, Hangouts is not IM. Google Talk was an IM client. Hangouts is a rich messaging client. It’s more in the vein of BBM than AIM. It’s not really built off of Google talk. It seems to be an evolution of Google+ Messenger.
I think that instant messengers are dying off. Pervasive messaging systems are the new thing. Even Google Talk has been able to do this with the ability to send a message to someone who is offline. It’s not ideal in some use cases, but the assumption is that people will always have a device with them capable of chatting. Send them the message and they’ll check it when they have time.
It’s an evolution of thought that makes some users uncomfortable but I figure that in time we’ll all adjust. Online indicators are pretty much legacy now.
