Man, this thread is ridiculous. If people don’t like Metro, according to the fanboys, they must all be 80 year olds who hate change. Right. Because that’s why I’ve beta tested the last few versions of Windows and Office, and I’ve taken a liking to the Ribbon.
Metro does not benefit existing desktop users in any way. Nobody has complained about how hard it is to click on icons versus gigantic tiles. Nobody asked for multitasking to be crippled to the point that it takes the entire screen to check the weather or browse an app store. Nobody asked for the Start menu to be replaced with an over saturated, toy-like screen with tiles animating every which way. It is a waste of screen space and looks awful on a 24" monitor. I don’t need 3" tiles to tell me this thing is Internet Explorer and that thing is Bing Maps. Icons have worked perfectly to give us visual representations of apps for the last 30 years.
Windows 8 is Microsoft’s desperate attempt to chase the iPad’s success, but in doing so, they’ve destroyed the desktop experience. You know, desktops and laptops, which make up 99% of Windows market share.

If other industries were managed like our wireless spectrum, we would have massive food scandals like in (ironically) China and tons more product safety issues, etc. There’s no thing as a real “free market”; it would be a disaster.
Well, if it helps you feel better, feel free to call anything done for the common good “socialism”, intrusions of private property and whatnot. Whatever helps these corporations earn a billion or two extra each quarter.

Yeah, the free market does everything better than the gub’mint! Verizon and AT&T deserve exclusive control of the public airwaves!
There’s nothing wrong with following the rest of the industrialized world in making fair regulations. European carriers get equal, smaller amounts of spectrum than ours and they can somehow provide better service.

You lost whatever credibility you had when you threw out that word, “socialist”. You conservatives love using it to rant about any little bit of government regulation, don’t you?
