Eek, really? Not my experience.
iTunes Match just seems to choke on larger (+10K song) libraries; on both iOS and OSX. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it just keeps scanning in iTunes like a broken record. Sometimes only a fraction of my songs will show up on my iPad. Sometimes album artwork won’t show up. Sometimes songs just won’t play. Sometimes the Music app just slows to a crawl. So, no, I haven’t had a flawless experience. Not since the beginning. I still use it anyway because streaming services don’t really fit me, but I wish it got some needed attention.

Agreed, great moment. Stories start here.

I like this, I’m a sucker for frozen action. One thing I would’ve done, though, is to clone out the couple droplets that are on the edge of the frame. It would help support the overall simplicity and cleanness of the image.

Optical finder. I’ve never been able to mesh with EVFs or LiveView mode. It might happen someday by force, but I’ve been using optical finders for too long to feel comfortable with anything else. The other reason is because I’m used to my body acting as the third leg of stabilization—left hand, right hand, and face (for 35mm) or chest (for waist-level finders). Holding the camera out away from me feels unnatural. My favorite has been the 6×6 ground glass view from the Bronica SQ-A, just because it’s so big and bright. But the mirrored viewing from waist-level finders takes a while to get used to, especially if you also use other camera types. For an SLR, the Canon EOS-3 was great, a noticeable improvement from the APS-C DSLR I had at the time. I would guess a full-frame DSLR would give a similar result nowadays.

I think this list says more about The Verge readers than it does about the Internet.

I’ll just touch on the the CF/SD card part you asked about. The advantage of CF is its higher available write speeds, possibly higher durability, and that it works natively with the camera you have. But that speed comes with a higher cost, both in price and convenience with your MBA. If write speed isn’t at the top of your list, you could use an SD to CF adapter and use it with the 7D. You’d get to keep a good camera you’re used to, only shell out a couple bucks, and get the convenience of using the SD slot in your MBA.
Edit: Did I misread that you own the 7D?

That’s funny, because I see lots of people holding and looking at their phones. In the subway, on the street, at work, at the store, etc. If you spend a lot of time using your device, which many people around me seem to do, it’s not unreasonable to want that device to look right to your eye and feel right to your hand.

What other things do you care about in picking a platform? Tumblr has a bunch of themes, isn’t too difficult to customize, is free, and is easy to post text and photos from any device, but your content gets locked into their platform. Squarespace has easy to use the templating tools, some nice themes to start with, and handles the hosting, but is a little more expensive than self web hosting. Wordpress has lots of theme options, many plugins, and a large user base for support, but I still found it a pain to customize and maintain (mostly due to PHP and database stuff).

Haha, thank you and congrats!

Great subject. The closer crop looked ok, but removed the context of the image which was the real point of the story. Maybe a squarer crop that kept the musket and put his face more to the left? I’m also wondering if a lower angle would’ve gotten rid of those people in the background and allowed more framing options.

I agree with the left fill thought, but I like the angle. It puts more of her against the sky background, which you would loose otherwise.

Sorry, I could only sell them as two separate kits. Keep an eye out at KEH, they sometimes come up there.

I’m trying to recall what lenses have aperture rings that aren’t in full stops. Both my Nikon AF-D and Mamiya MF lenses are all full stop. Same thing with shutter speed dials. Mostly, people are shooting in aperture or shutter priority, which figures out the other setting in normal 1/3 increments. I think they got it right.

If they can bring the X100s phase detection autofocus speed to the next X-Pro1, I’d be pretty much sold. Maybe improving the OVF magnification when a tele lens is attached, too. But I don’t see it going full-frame. That would be cool for sure, but I don’t see them investing in yet another lens series lineup already.
It’s tough looking at what the x100s has now and trying to wait for what the Fuji has coming next.

Yea, calling it a “true” rangefinder caught my eye, too. That’s an error. Easy to fix, though—rangefinder style.
