Considering how Prince William Sound never recovered from the Valdez, how the Gulf Coast never recovered from the BP spills, i can’t see anything but for us to pursue nuclear power, even though its like a dragon that we should seek shelter from under the robes of the local wizard in his Ivory Tower (just next to Orthanc)
This whole discussion is stupid. All i see is hyporcites bitching about petro-dollars who learned that kind of talk from all the edu-dollars they spent on Big Higher-Ed (economic segment with the highest cost growth over the last 40 years, btw) all while driving their petro-powered Volvos and commuter trains. These are the same people that fret over a single trace gas destroying the planet, and treat the two most plentiful sources of energy in the universe – the weak and strong nuclear forces – like they are shit-covered peasants in a Monty Python sketch, freaking out over the word nuclear and forcing the developing world (full of people that don’t look like them – you know, black and poor and Starbuck-less) to stay in the middle ages while they make snotty comments on the Verge via their Chinese-made MacBooks (because its okay for China to pollute as much as they want, so long as we don’t pollute in California or in the East Village).
holy shit, this is depressing.
Energy is how progress is made. All real progress.
We have the abaility to make it in unending quantities, but political and medieval fears stop us and i’m totally fed up with all of the bitching by bespecled hipster toffs.
I’m just going to sit back with my guns and Bible in fly-over country and watch China kick everyone’s ass.

“You’ll hear voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s the root of all our problems, even as they do their best to gum up the works; or that tyranny always lurks just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave, creative, unique experiment in self-rule is just a sham with which we can’t be trusted.”

this was just to point out that, yet again, its a vague group called “The White House” doing evil and that the President – President Obama – was not mentioned by name by a progressive website/writer when talking about him out-doing George Bush in how evil, say, the latest version of the Patriot Act is.
…or demanding total power to domestically spy against all the Verge readership. Like this article is pointing out.
one wonders if he actually wrote “George Bush” in the first edit.
Thank you.

Holy fucking shit.
Obama. His fucking name is President Obama
Seriously – its like fucking kryptonite, isn’t it? You can’t look at it, you can’t hold it…
you can’t own it. Because you told yourself, and everyone else – its just George Bush. Its George Bush and the blue-eyed white rich Republican devil. Its not a black man who’s a Democrat who likes gay people and Latinos. He’s not an evil white Christian.
And you still don’t have the guts to stand up and take ownership of the fact that o-FUCKING-Bama is no better that George Bush.
He blows up people indiscriminately around the world with drones.
He didn’t end a single war.
He continues to prosecute Manning.
He is till running Guantanamo Bay
He’s still torturing people
He still has the TSA ass-raping 83 year old ladies who can’t stand under their own power.
For fuck sake – SAY HIS NAME and OWN IT.
President Obama is just as evil and bad and horrible and just as much of a war criminal and just as much of a domestic spy as George Bush
own it.

As it turns out, the Sun is expected to enter its period of increased activity this year, though so far, it’s been a relatively quiet one.
huh. Lowered solar activity…. no increase in temperatures for almost 18 years.
Maunder Minimum = insanely cold temps.
nope… i’m seeing nothing here. I’m sure its just coincidence (not that i give a shit how high the oceans rise – my house is at 2132 meters above sea level. People of LA, NY, and Venice – MOVE!)

how weird is it that Bryan Bishop is doing movie reviews… like Bryan Bishop does on Adam Carolla’s show.

youre innocent until proven guilty in a court.
I, nor anyone else here who knows they are guilty, are a court. And we are entitled to own damn opinions all we want.
So if you and everyone else who quotes that every time someont points out the obvious (that one is legally innocent until provent guilty in a court) could just take a sip of shut the fuck up with that, that would be great.

Well, as far as we (us hicks in fly-over country clinging to our guns and Bibles) can tell, the East Coast and West Coast is the entire nation in your minds.
But you’re just so darn CUTE that way. Its why we don’t care or listen to your thoughts on gun control any more than you care or listen to our thoughts on… anything.
