If you are referring to the boom mics they use in tv, they pick up sound in a larger area and would not be good for this setup. And if you are talking about clip on mics, they are not as good and can be annoying to set up. The ones they are using only pick up sound very close to the mic and can be set up once are then be used multiple times.
