I wonder if they are going to come out with new boxes any time soon. I am interested in a Roku because of the Plex support.

I have an AppleTV already, but other than AirPlay that device isn’t that great. Netflix can be iffy on it.

A lot of people are complaining about this change, but I think it looks great. I think it is pretty impressive and runs quickly.

It being able to run completely in the browser is very nice. I’m a Spotify subscriber and it is enticing to switch over to Rdio. I mostly use these services for music discovery.

Indeed. I have a lot of Apple products but will only buy ebooks on Kindle. You can view them everywhere.

Although, I will say if Spotify doesn’t fix some of their glaring issues I don’t know if I can stick with them.

A lot of the time when there’s an issue, their support team won’t even real acknowledge something is wrong, they just come up with an excuse.

I love Rdio’s design, but I think Spotify’s service is overall better. The library seems to be bigger (but in the US it seems very very similiar) However, I will certainly say that Spotify’s apps (everything, mobile and desktop) tend to be rather buggy. Rdio seems to not roll out features until they actually work.

For exmaple (Spotify), for a week or two, I couldn’t even load the “App Finder” and it was not client side – did a clean install and everything. And actually this morning I couldn’t load the “What’s New” page for a couple hours. Furthermore, the iOS app was recently updated to be universal and it brought a lot of new features, but also introduced more bugs. Using the iPad app, I didn’t get through a full album without it freezing. It also crashed several times when just browsing. Very frustrating. Even with these bugs Spotify is definitely functional and plays music very well.

I think I am sticking with Spotify though because the desktop app, while buggy, I think is better because the playback is smoother than Rdio. Rdio has gaps between the tracks and Spotify has gapless playback, and so far it has worked pretty well. I attribute Rdio not offering gapless because it is web-based and that is really, really tough to pull off. Also, Rdio’s sound quality is certainly not as good as Spotify when it is set at high quality (~320kbps) vs. an unknown bitrate. Rdio will not disclose it. I have listened to the 2 side-by-side and Spotify noticeably sounded better.

Overall though I would certainly look at the libraries of the two and put a lot of weight for the decision on that because after all it is about the music. One thing of note: Rdio hasn’t “officially” launched in the UK yet. When they do that, the library may very well be more robust.

To me 9.99/mo is an excellent value for what you get. I still buy music on iTunes but Spotify makes me really check out an album before I buy to make sure I want to add it to my permanent collection. Sometimes there are albums that I enjoy, but only end up listening to the record 3-4 times. Doesn’t mean I don’t get a lot of enjoyment out of the record it is just one that I move on from.

Their selection though is just excellent overall and feel it is well worth my 9.99/mo.

This update already came to me last week – they aren’t huge but they are definitely nice changes/additions.

Oh neat. I did not know that… I don’t own a Kindle yet but I may pick up one of the cheaper ones eventually. I do use the Kindle App on my iPad for now.

I can see why you would get confused, they don’t really advertise it that well they are DRM-free. :)

I wish they allowed this through their Kindle Apps. The lending library only works through Kindle devices.

What? They are being sold as a DRM-free eBook on her site. You can put it on any device you want as many times as you want.

Nevermind… I can’t read. Looks like it is only available on Samsung devices + on the web. This is only interesting for people who only use Samsung devices…

Is this only available on Samsung phones? If there’s no desktop application and support on a lot of other devices this is worthless.

Rdio’s collection feature is great, but I find the audio quality to be lacking compared to Spotify.

I don’t think it should be overlooked that the iOS app now has gapless playback. Pretty sure they are the only service that provides that on desktop and mobile (well just iOS for now, assuming they are going to add that to the Android app once that is completed).

Not that this makes it better, but this is the model right now with all of the streaming services. I honestly don’t mind because with the Premium you get high quality streams as well. Well worth the extra 5/mo to me.

Now I have no reason to switch to any other service. Very happy this is finally out!
