Exactly, now imagine what will happen when MS get their finger out their butt and release 8.1. I guess that’s 6 months away, but by then the app issue will be all but gone, Nokia can release phones with HD screens and all the other features Android has (even if personally I think most of that is overkill) and it’ll tie nicely into Windows 8.1 and Xbox One. In theory unless Google can do something amazing with Android 5 (and Apple have already shown they’ve little new beyond a nice visual update) then 2014 looks to be Nokia’s year. I could see them catching back up with Samsung for number one phone manufacturer by volume.

With their marketing might and brand muscle they might well do that, doesn’t make it in any way a better product. McDonalds sells millions more hamburgers than Goodmans’ sell steaks, but only a fool would claim the McDonalds product was better (hmmm, actually I can see many people arguing against this… this world, some people, what can you do…)

Hairdryer, what with the 4 cores and Android’s lack of optimisation I bet it’s a good heater.

Thanks for that laugh, and I thought some of the articles on the Verge were bad! Wow. I’ve not read techcrunch for a while, but it’s gone way downhill (and the comments are pure spam, which is even worse than the bashing that goes on here).
Until Samsung have something that can fit into a pocket any comparison between the S4 Zoom and Nokia is crazy. Sure being a S4 & Galaxy will help it sell, but really any sensible person should get a S4 and a pocket camera over this thing. Samsung should release an app to connect their cameras to their phones so people can use the phone to view photos, upload pictures to facebook, share via email, etc. That would be “smart”. Take a photo with the camera of your choice and then use your phone to share the photos.
Or better, get a Nokia, they know what they are doing and Windows Phone is arguably a nicer OS.

Maybe Apple should make an iPhone that doesn’t need internet? I mean it’s for making calls and sending texts right, who needs the internet? People just want to find a reason to moan about Microsoft.

I don’t know. I think it’s a much tougher balance. Lots of people would buy a simple/old Mario game on their iPhone/Androids. Put enough ads in there for “bigger, better, faster” versions on the 3DS and you have a whole new audience who thought this was “good enough” deciding instead to go out and get a 3DS. Right now people will either use emulators and play some alternatives, get them into Nintendo games, make them loyal and they’ll come round to their hardware which quite frankly I reckon the majority would never even have considered. I see it as a seed device the same way the iPhone brought a lot of people into owning Macs.
But I see your points and as I say it’s a tough call, overall I’d be inclined to embrace other distribution mediums if I was in charge. But I’m not. I also don’t play Nintendo games..

They’ll upgrade when they’re systems become slow. Most companies have a 5-7 year upgrade path. So it really doesn’t matter what version of the OS is out at the time.
Windows 8 is aimed at consumers, companies were always going to wait at least a year before thinking of upgrading. 8.1 will solve most roadblocks for enterprise adoption just in time for them to start looking at upgrades. MS are doing fine here.

“being a dick for the sake of it.” – isn’t that Google’s new motto, now they’ve ditched “do no evil”?
Sure seems to be half the time.

Well the carriers/networks are desperate to persuade their customers that they need to upgrade. But look at the uptake of 4G on EE here in the UK. About a million people moved to the more expensive plan and I’m sure most of them were mis-sold. 3G is fine for most people, 4G, LTE, it’s more than most people require and really is just another way for the networks to screw people over and make more of a profit. At least we’ve got the choice, even if plenty of people do get pushed into it when they don’t require it.
