Yes and they could charge $10 per app ($30 less than they charge for 3DS games) of which $3 would go to Apple. Of course, if they set the price at $10 about 90% of downloaded copies will be pirated so they will have to either cut the price to 99 cents or frequently do sales during every possibly U.S. Holiday. Eventually realizing that 69 cents per copy is not enough to justify game development, they will move to a freemium model. Selling us broken games that you need to pay for just to advance a few levels. Mushroom power-ups for only 99 cents!
This still won’t be enough to make much money and so Nintendo will be forced to fire a large number of employees. Personally, I’d rather not have Nintendo turn into EA.
Nintendo will make more money selling 3 million copies of Mario Kart 3DS at $40 than selling 100 million copies of Mario Kart for smart phones for 99 cents. Also, the idea that the Wii U is a failure so Nintendo must make games for iOS and Android makes no sense. Those are different platforms. Smartphones are doing damage to Nintendo’s mobile business, but the 3DS is actually selling decently okay. It’s clearly hurt them, but I bet they’re still making a lot more money than if they tried to make games for iOS and Android.
