Because people disagree with you, you don’t think they should be posting? Conversation is s two-way street. People are responding to the massive hype Samsung generated.
(PS. Ugly phone with a confused design and the character of broccoli.)

10/10… I can’t agree with that.

I didn’t actually have a WebOS phone bought to use exclusively – my iPhone 4’s power button died and while it was being repaired under warranty, I picked up a Palm Pixi Plus cheap rather than deal with the horrors of loanphones.
Now I have a Galaxy Nexus… so iPhone or Android, either is fine really.
I really wanted to love WebOS, and I did buy the weakest of all the WebOS devices (it also never got updated beyond 1.4.x). I really wanted to love the tiny keyboard phone too. If they had the money to execute this idea properly… it’d have been great and I’d probably be on a WebOS phone now.
I had an Android phone that started on 1.5, got updated to 1.6 then eventually 2.2. Now I’m on 4.0.3 and I still get the feeling it’s a bit “clunky”. It’s a feeling I didn’t really get with WebOS.

I think it’s disingenuous to not recognize how close the two ideas can be to each other.

They keep you from using HSPA+ if you don’t have a “4g” phone though. Artificially limiting the speed available to you.

I consider your reply a non sequitur, and I’ll explain why.
I wasn’t referring to Paul’s motivations, I was referring to the people who are responding positively to what he’s doing. These people have real affinity for the idea. Their affinity echoes the sentiments expressed at this rally – the internet can cause great harm.
What people do on the internet is their buisness, not the buisness of the masses.
I agree with you, but nothing I said in my original post prompts this. I’m talking about the idea itself, not any kind of forceful implementation.
As a final note, I don’t think Paul’s detractors quite appreciate how massive a commitment going cold-turkey on the internet is for a gimmick. I personally believe he has very real motivations for doing so – because I understand his motivations in the context of my own life.

It’s such a pity the market of people looking to buy unlocked phones outright is so excruciatingly small – I’d love to see more phones on Google Play.
The US market isn’t my forte, but isn’t T-Mobile the only carrier that provides a decent deal for BYO phones? And aren’t they a bit of a third-rate carrier coverage wise? If they can set a target price of $400 for future phones in the caliber of the Galaxy Nexus, I’ll certainly be taking advantage of it, but I’m not sure many will.

I think they’re looking at the right problems. However, like most orthodox religions, I don’t agree with their reasoning. Fans of what Paul Miller are doing are responding to the same idea – the internet is harming us, we should teach ourselves to use it better before it is too late.
This great tool, this great library, this great prison.

That has zero bearing on it ruining an otherwise pretty good looking design.

With you there. Logos on the front of the phone, even manufacturer’s logos… ugh. My last two phones have had zero branding on the front, and all my future phones will be the same.
