My last Vaio had a great, 1080p screen, but the rest of the build quality was… not great. I have a Macbook Air now, and it’ll take quite an improvement on Sony’s part to win me back.

If that’s the case, why fuck around with the lenticular photography?

What the hell kind of leap of faith did you take to get to we shouldn’t have a campaign to help abused children?!
My point is this campaign is a terrible idea.

A warning for adults elaborating on the message that there is a secret message their kids can read not intended for them? Brilliant!

This is a terrible idea.
This is an advertising campaign made for the awards season. Not actually helping kids. From this comment on HN:
No, thank you. I know abused kids are a serious issue, but the vast majority of kids aren’t abused, and this is a disturbing ad to show specifically to a kid, especially when the grown-up with them doesn’t see it. I’m picturing walking past this billboard with my kid and having him ask “Daddy, why does that kid look all beat up” and answering “no, that kid looks perfectly normal, you’re making it up”. Nice.

Using that definition, it can’t. I defy you to take one out of the box and install some desktop software on it without modifying the OS.
But you’re missing the point by arguing about the use of “can”.
As MS sells it, it cannot. The point isn’t to argue about what it’s technically capable of doing with modification, the point is one of the sucking points is you’re not able to run desktop software on it without fucking around.

Well of course you CAN. Jesus. You can run a webserver on a commodore 64.
The point is you can’t, out of the box, using it the way MS intends.

It can’t, because Microsoft won’t let you.
Know the facts.
(This is the stupidest fucking semantics argument ever.)
