So Verge can make a more functional one! C’mon staffers! What do you guys think?

I’ve generally tried to stay clear of Engadget since The Verge went live BUT their Engadget District is just so nicely produced. I’m positive The Verge can make something better.
On the other hand, I TRIED not to use Newsstand because I already read news from SO many sources. Flipboard,Twitter, Feedly, etc. It’s only recently that I realized that Newsstand wasn’t just like any other news website, it was a chance to help publications focus on long-form, comprehensive, articles. Since Verge has so many talented writers, I think we could benefit from a magazine.

This. Good point and I agree. It’s a social network, but it doesn’t seem to have been made as a ‘direct’ competitor to Facebook. Google did say once that the internet needed an identity layer. IMHO, if any we were to trust any company with our data as a centralized ID service, it should be Google. At least they give things back to us for our data (Now), unlike FB – and no other company is close to un-anonymizing(sp?) the web.

This might be a good way to make use of G+. Users might just use it as some account within Google, but the chances of them actually using it as a social network are higher with this app/service, than before. FINALLY.

Are you capable of parsing through a random string of letters to find out which are relevant enough to determine the details of a calendar entry? And efficiently?

Oh wow. Just from that image in the article, the natural language processing looks pretty awesome. Can’t wait to see this in action

This is great advice, thanks for that. I’ve never thought of uploading photos at lower res, and that’s a great idea. I guess I’m not even sure why I’m concerned about people ‘stealing’ photos I upload. If I put it on the internet publicly, that’s what I should probably expect – if I wanted to make money out of it, I guess even putting it on 500px (where you can sell your photos) would be pointless as someone could always print screen.

I mean, take a look at those trying to replace Facebook (Google+, Path, App.net, mainly). They’re having a hard time gaining significant traction because nobody is willing to leave Facebook. Everyone’s settled in and nobody wants to commit to a new social network.
And yes, I agree that social networks will always try to reinvent itself. Even if, say Path replaces Facebook for good, someone will try to recreate the experience of ‘personal’ and ‘private’. But, the reason I bring this up is because, at least from what I see in forum threads here, and my own personal experiences, Facebook seems to be becoming this stale website where you can’t tell the difference between friends’ posts and sponsored posts, and it seems like the world is ready to move on, but just can’t.

I expected that iOS users leaned towards Flipboard more, especially seeing how unpopular Currents is on iOS. I figured on the Android forums, there would be more users of Currents, and would help me get to a quick diagnosis – but all is well now, I hope.

Actually, never mind. I think I’ve found the source.
Google Currents automatically “recommends” a “Pick of the Week” to you by auto-subscribing you to that feed.
http://blogs.journalism.co.uk/2013/04/10/journalism-co-uk-is-pick-of-the-week-on-google-currents/
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/12/12/google-currents-2-0-released-tons-of-new-features-added/ (See the comments section, just CTRL+F “pick of the week”)
IMHO, it’s really annoying, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to disable it on the iOS version. It’s irked me enough to stop giving it a try and go back to Flipboard :/.

Nope, they’re usually in the “Entertainment” category. For example, last week I kept getting auto-subscribed to “Journalism.co.uk” or something, and this week it’s “The Superficial”.
