Ultrabooks are still too pricey. It seems like many manufactures are trying to get advantage of this new market with their consumer; following apple’s pricing. I hope these HP Sleekbooks help pull down the price of the Ultrabooks. I have to say that I disagree with many part of this article. Ultrabook, itself, is also marketing term. So what if HP decide to call their AMD alternative as Sleekbook or what not? In term of quality that the ultrabook promise on speed, I’m not sure if it matters ‘highly’ to the average consumer. Sure, we all would like faster boot time on windows and more reliable hard drive. But I highly doubt that’s the main reason why the an average user buys an ultrabook in the store. The truth is that the consumer have been waiting for a thin notebook for awhile. They’ve been tired of carrying their thick notebook to school or to work. And they have been burn by the broken promises of the netbook which barely handle their internet streaming lifestyle. And the argument about SSD pricing making the ultrabook pricey is relevant but not entirely true. For example, you could find ultrabooks with 128GB SSD for as low as $799, but with similar spec from many other brands the price ranges from $999 and up. So I hope this keep price in check. So that consumer benefit in the long run. But personally, I can’t wait for more thin power-user notebook and desktop replacement.
