While i agree of the idea of weening out of the desktop, this is too much of a “push out of the nest” for me to like. They are going to be gambling a lot on not only metro dominating, but also strong Windows 8 penetration. I love metro, but good luck.

It’s all about peer to peer marketing, which in theory should be better than the more traditional Google ads, but as we hear over and over again, Google is by far the king of CTRs.
The real issue lies in that Facebook has too much liberty to allow companies to advertise for free. Why should I or many other companies pay for Facebook page ads when we can slap “Like Us On Facebook” onto our own products, advertisments, or anything else that is not directly through Facebook ads. In the end it benefits the companies well enough, without Facebook seeing a dime of it.
Facebook has landed itself in a position where it cant “fix” those issues in order to ensure greater revenue. If they were to impose cost on either the enterprise or on the consumer end, the platform would fall apart. We will continue to not pay for Facebook ad space, because there is absolutely no reason to.
Even though I feel strongly for P2P marketing being highly beneficial over traditional marketing strategies, Facebook’s implementation of it will be their downfall.

With the cost and energy input to implement a system such as that, I’m not sure there would be any benefit for energy savings. That being said, if it somehow becomes a standard for other reasons such as what Google is currently using the system for, its not a long shot to see that as a secondary use for the system.

Think 1:1 metaphors. In OSX, instead of nessisarily fixing the UX of a program, they made it look like a kids toy by bedazzling the apps to make the user feel like a moron.

Sadly, Apple is no where near the only culprate of useless skeuomorphisms. The Verge did a great post on it a while back:

Exactly, and at the rate that everything is shrinking, even with a new standard it will soon be an awkwardly large component in comparison to everything else.
What I am unclear about is whether that notch system makes the housing bigger or smaller than it otherwise be..

Just because most of it currently comes from China does not mean the resources can be gotten from other places. Just like Oil, I’m sure the US has some untouched resources that it is keeping on to just for the sake of depleting other countries supplies first.
