The Kinect audio calibration can help with this. It’s in settings. It may not have an up-to-date profile for your audio arrangement (reflection, delay, number of speakers and such) and so it’s not able to distinguish its own audio out from sounds in the room. It’d be nice if Kinect did this automatically every so often, but the 360 Kinect does not.

No kidding. That is the “this is an email app” vs. “this is a Google account sign-in benefit” difference between Outlook.com and Gmail shining through.

I don’t believe it yet has any features that require a year of training. The things which can have a big impact on energy usage are based on observation within a week or within a day (e.g. auto-schedule and auto-away) and weather is not consistant enough year-over-year to make a difference beyond that. (Never mind the thing’s only been out 1.5 years.) Perhaps I’m thinking too small, but I wouldn’t worry about the year timeframe and Nest right now.

First was the 5GB iPod (2nd gen.) I also had the first run of iPod Video and Shuffle. Never bothered with the “iTouch” line, because I started to prefer radio, and Zune Pass, and straight streaming, although they’re admirable devices.
