Why is it that The Verge is calling what happened a docking, when NASA themselves call the operation a berthing? The Dragon certainly didn’t maneuver itself to dock with the ISS, so to say it docked, or even docking capture, is incorrect. It would be more correct to say it was captured for berthing, but I’m guessing not too many people know the difference.

So the goal of this is to somehow break a PKI implementation on any decent VoIP calls faster than a few centuries? As is Skype might already have the capability to tap into any communication thru their service, so it might be a moot point for them, but for anyone else that designs a proper and secure method…

Hmm… for some reason, I can’t quite care about a 16MP at that size. Obviously, the pixel-level detail will be shot to hell, but at least it can do it at 30fps!

You have heard of MHL, right? That combo HDMI/USB port that accepts microUSB cables just fine? You’re probably using a MHL to HDMI adapter to simply split off the signals.

Honestly, I expect for any shared family plan to be priced higher than if the same amount was bought for each line in aggregate from any carrier at this point, with a $5 or so extra charge per month to impose limits on each line. As is, T-Mobile lets people adjust the data service as they will within a month, so if you really were diligent enough to monitor every bit of use, you could minimize your costs and achieve probably better savings than if a shared pool is implemented with the extra per line limit feature tacked on. Of course, this is pure speculation, but it all comes down to how the plans/services are rolled out.

Heh… looks like the article was updated since I last read it… So long as there is both a hardware baseline from which OEMs build from and absolutely no skinning, I’m all over it. I actually was going to grab a Galaxy Nexus from the Play Store today until I read this piece, and if it’s honestly true then there’s absolutely no reason for me to saddle myself with a Pentile display. Maybe we’ll even have models with a MicroSD slot!

As far as I understood it, a 3rd party has to certify the app as “good enough” to sell some amount (presumably $10000 worth). How that determination is made I have no clue. Also, the app needs to have made at least $1000 within a year before they cut you a check for the rest.
Just as a sidenote, this information was culled from what I heard on the podcast, so any inaccuracies can be attributed to the podcast itself. :)

Honestly, this “advice” would be better applied to Sony rather than Nintendo at this point in time. As much as Apple is gaining, you can’t pin their growth as the reason or rationale for Nintendo to jump ship. Besides, do you know the difference between that free-$2 iOS game and a $30-40 3DS game? How you consume it. Most every iOS game is designed around a bite-sized experience, whereas the stuff on a 3DS for the most part isn’t. To even attempt to shove something like Zelda onto an iPhone is simply asinine.

I still can’t understand why so many analysts believe diluting the Nintendo brand through diversification would be of any benefit to anyone outside of those other platforms and investors/analysts. To even attempt the splitting of hardware and software in any manner at this stage would doom the hardware side to irrelevance, and I doubt any company that has the reserves of Nintendo would even consider such a move.

As much as I understand the allure of a more portable gaming experience not shackled to a single platform or device, to even say Nintendo should throw itself down Sega’s path when they aren’t even remotely near what Sega was in is insane. If the Wii U decides to pull a Virtual Boy, then maybe Nintendo can worry, but even so they’ll still have a 3DS to rely on until they get their heads on straight while burning through their multi-billion dollar bank account. Besides, they do have smaller/cheaper games available for download through the eShop and hopefully through whatever experience they design for the Wii U, so the issue is up to the developers to design games that fit in the desired price range.

Stuck/dead pixels happen on all screens. When the pixel density ramps up as high as they have been, the costs associated with screening out panels with 100% perfect subpixels skyrockets to the point where only Apple seems to be willing to cover (or charge straight to the consumer, who knows?). Honestly, an unlit subpixel is 100x better than a stuck lit subpixel, so if it truly bothers you, go ahead and get another one with the knowledge that the odds are not in your favor with getting a perfect screen.

For now, outside of the various PSP games you can grab, you really don’t have any options until the FF10 remake. Maybe we’ll know more by E3, but there are no obvious JRPG options for the Vita at this point in time.
