I’m hoping the HTC one gets announced for verizon today like rumored. It will be a good boost for the phone. Plus, carriers should be actively promoting this phone as I doubt they have much interest in just becoming iphone/galaxy retailers

Its a trade off I’m willing to make, for me personally. This is one area I think apple should change their ways. One size does not fit all.

I think it will be a PS4 for me this time around. I have a 360, and I like it except for the whole no wifi thing (really microsoft?) but I would have gone with a PS3 in the last generation had it not been considerably more expensive than the 360 when I was in the market. This time I don’t care; I’ll pony up even if the PS4 is a little more. The PS3 exclusives looked great, and I don’t want to miss out on those this time around. Halo, while good, has never blown me away. Gears of War was a better exclusive in my opinion, and I will miss any future iterations of that series, but I’ll survive. Plus, I don’t like where MSFT is going with these new limitations on used games. So beam me up Sony!

I would like a larger screen. I know everyone likes to say “that’s what I have a tablet for!” But I don’t carry my tablet around all the time. I do carry my phone everywhere, and a bigger screen would make a lot of functions better, even if I couldn’t use the phone one-handed as easily anymore.

But we are assuming that the press here always knows what information could end up being potentially damaging from a national security stand point. There are smart people in journalism, but that doesn’t mean they are all-knowing.

and that’s part of the problem. What exactly defines a compromise of national security is something that can be debated into eternity. None the less, if the government has absolutely no recourse to prosecute those who knowingly steal or distribute (really they are two sides of the same coin) classified information that really shouldn’t have been released, then we are in trouble. You pointed out certain information that is well accepted as non-public information that shouldn’t be printed, but there are others.
I don’t envy the person that has to try to define in words the difference though.

and what do we do if the news agencies don’t act responsibly?
And are we to believe all media agencies know what information really needs to be classified, and what information doesn’t?

compromising national security is illegal. Not sure what the implications in this particular case are, but there is a reason it was classified.

So you think the government has no right to make information classified? Perhaps there should be no such thing as classified information, and everything should just be published to the internet?
Don’t be so narrow-minded to think that all leaked information should be protected by first amendment rights.

If we can all just take a step back for a second, publishing or obtaining classified governmental information walks a fine line between espionage and freedom of information. On the one hand, the government should be able to classify certain information, and should be able to aggressively go after those who try to disseminate such information, including the press (if they knowingly share classified information). On the other hand, sometimes information does need to be leaked and make public, namely when the government is doing something highly unethical. Knowing the difference between the two, is hard, and I think we can all agree with that.
To me, based on what I read, it would seem this leak would fall under the former. Nuclear capability analysis of N Korea doesn’t seem to rise to the level of something unethical. And if that’s the case, then I think going after the leaker and the pressman who aided in the distribution is well within the right of the government.
Of course, what do you do in a situation where leaking classified information was the moral thing to do, and the government wants to prosecute the person. I admit, it’s very difficult.

1. The SGS4 does not come with more storage. You have to expand it, plus, the SGS4 has been criticized for the amount of internal storage it sucks up, leaving you even less app storage space.
2. Anandtech’s battery chart says otherwise about the battery. Except for the wifi hotspot (SGS4 wins), the HTC battery was on par or slightly better.
3. The HTC one screen has been more highly praised, unless you’re really into amoled (I actually do like amoled a lot, except for outdoors viewing)
4. There are many of us out there that find touchwiz insulting to our good sensibilities on design. Sense isn’t perfect, but it definitely feels more like a grown-up design.
5. the speakers on the htc one are a pretty compelling feature.
6. I agree the SGS4 is not disgusting to hold, but I had a GS3 for several months, and I was constantly wiping off the back because it got so greasy looking. It’s not a deal breaker, but it’s not exactly desirable either.

that is not what is holding the htc one back. That should be more than obvious. The SGS3/4 weren’t stock, and they sold like crazy. Normal people don’t care about stock.
Their problem really is just marketing and word of mouth. I still haven’t seen a lot of marketing for the HTC one, but i’ve seen more than what i saw for the one x.

sales numbers haven’t been released yet. No it won’t sell as much as the SGS4, but that doesn’t mean it can’t still succeed. If I were to buy an android phone tomorrow, it would easily be the HTC one (as an iphone owner), hands down. I would take it over the stock SGS4 version too.

If you’re jumping on tmobile or some other byod, then its pretty compelling as it’s the first pure android OS on a truly flagship device. Otherwise, not worth it.
