I am here to say that Diet Coda is orgasmically fliptastically beautiful on the new iPad retina.

LTE offers significantly lower latency, which in some ways is a key indicator of “speed”, or at least response time. And many carriers offering LTE networks require a full IPv6 stack. Say what you want, but progress is key.
Question is: is it worth the battery drain? Honestly though, with the upcoming microSIM and downsizing of every other part, plus the fact that LTE chips keep getting better, I don’t see it much of a problem. Smarter switching perhaps would help (game players probably don’t need always-on 4G, but web surfers and email addicts probably do) but as the others said, LTE is the future.

Have you considered porting your number over to Google Voice for $10 bucks and get rid of AT$T forever? It’s what I did! Just forward for free to your new T-Mo number ;) and texts are pushed so….yeah :D

As far as the base OS is concerned, everything is definitely easier to find, easier to change, easier to see what’s wrong in the event there is something weird going on.
Case in point: Find IP. In Mac it’s going to be 2 clicks away (no joke, I just did that). Meanwhile on Windows you’re still going to be at that “Networks and Internet” shit looking through adapters and whatnot.
There’s a lot of subtle niceties in OS X that I’ve found, and I jumped ship back in late 2008 with the unibodies. As an engineering student I still use PCs everyday, but for my daily driver it’s going to be Mac for sure. This is especially true for laptops – things are just easier to manage.
A couple other things I love about OS X:
- Useful built-in stuff. Oh you know, like a PDF reader. Printing drivers (it’s soooo much better than Windows Update), scanners…
- Backup and restore: You can copy a disk verbatim into an image, copy it back, whatever. Or use Time Machine. It’s saved my ass many times. Speaking of images, an ISO reader/burner. Their utilities are really top notch.
Hope that helps ya!

I have the Netgear 3700 (v2). It is excellent. Was going to recommend it but then I read that you were actually already considering it.
I have the 3700v2 on DD-WRT, and the fine-grained control it gives me really gives this thing an edge. It’s definitely provides the best/most reliable signal of a whole bunch of other wifi networks even from street/bar level right behind my apartment. I have it powering 6 LAN devices and depending on people at home, up to 10-12 wifi-connected devices. Great throughput!

In all seriousness though, runpee.com is excellent. Protip: Get the mobile app and preload your movie outside the theater. Cinemas have horrendous signal anyway.

While it’s true that many “large” software juggernauts do have Mac counterparts, you’ve got to take into account business use as well. Loads of people use their work laptop as their personal laptop too.
What about proprietary software? AutoCAD was PC only until very recently…and it’s not just STEM software.
Then of course there’s the feeling by most computer users that Macs are for the creatively-inclined, and who think that Apple is still that company 10 years ago where nothing works on Mac and nothing they ever do will help them switch over, so they end up just not bothering.
