This is precisely what we need. Cable and Content companies are conspiring to stop the march of technological process. Imagine, if you will, a world without TVs at home! What if Movie Theatres had stopped (idk the history, they probably did try) the airing of entertainment content in private homes? “it’ll destroy the industry” is the usual argument, but you see the rebuttal ought to be that a new industry is being made!

I will not be surprised if the corporate lackeys in Congress throw a hissy fit and try (again) to shut down the FCC…

The above posts point out a serious issue. Books and physical media have been able to survive without much active maintainence, so long as they were stored out of the way. Given all the wars and disruptions human society inflicts upon itself, we need a way to keep information safe, when people are busy with other things (such as war, famine, etc.) and have no interest. We also need to find a way to hide information effectively, in case of political developments (we can’t predict how the world will be in 200 years). How will someone open a .doc file of Microsoft has ceased to exist 100 years previously, leaving no record behind?

If they want to change defaults, that’s fine. But don’t stop me from running Rainmeter and other mods!

I see these infomercials and ads and wonder who is the sucker that falls for it. Reading this puts a face on those people, and makes me realize they’re just normal (mostly) people who are for some reason more vulnerable and are taken advantage of by these scammers.

Also, this is why I read The Verge. One of the first articles I read here was Condo at the End of the World, and the quality of writing blew me away. I comment very rarely on most websites, but when I do, it’s in response to a well-written and insightful piece! Keep it up!
