I may have said this in another thread but I seem to remember playing Star Trek 25th anniversary over and over again on my old IBMDOS machine.
Though I also remember playing San Andreas on my PS2 over and over. I would turn on riot mode and give everyone rocket launchers and see how long I could survive.
It doesn’t solve everything. An Android box or HTPC works well for cord cutters and pirates. If you still want live TV and you want a streaming service then your living room set up starts to get a bit cluttered.
I would go back and read The Verge’s week long coverage on this. There are some very important points missing from your argument.
For example, I might be fine with getting 90% of my content from Hulu and Netflix but how do I watch that one show on HBO?
Do I borrow my friend’s HBOGo login? Or do you just steal it?
Plus, not every streaming box has every streaming service.
What happens when you subscribe to Hulu to watch your favorite ABC shows and then Disney sells its shares and pulls its content? Then they come out with their own proprietary app but your streaming box doesn’t support it? What then? Piracy? Back to cable?
