Well, Google is definitely a media company now. Today's other big media announcement (the first being Google Music Beta) is movie rentals. Starting today, users can rent titles from the Market and stream to any device. Prices start at $1.99 but most of the big one we're seeing so far hit the $3.99 mark. Though streaming is the focus here, you can "pin" films to download in the background for enjoying in-flight or on the subway. The tablet app is rolling out with Honeycomb 3.1, while 2.2-compatible phones get it "in a few weeks." Rentals are currently available to watch in the browser, so if you're feeling inclined to, head on over the Android Market for a personalized matinee show.
