Grand Theft Auto III headed to mobile, starting with dual-core tablets and phones

Ten years ago, Grand Theft Auto III changed the way games were viewed and made. Now, Rockstar Games are bringing the classic to mobile operating systems to celebrate. Details are scarce, but the company just announced that the game will hit iOS and Android this fall. Now, if you're thinking that the PlayStation 2 title might not work on just any handset, you might be right -- Rockstar's only promising it will run on "select new generation" devices, which seems to be code for dual-core. The iPad 2 and iPhone 4S are in, as well as the Acer Iconia Tab, Asus Eee Pad, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Motorola Xoom, and Android handsets include the Samsung Galaxy S2, Motorola Atrix, LG Optimus 2X and Droid X2. There's also mention of an HTC Evo 2; we doubt Rockstar's talking about an unreleased phone, but rather the Evo 3D that arrived earlier this summer.

Update: More good news, folks — Kotaku confirmed that the game will come to "single-core iOS devices in the future."
