It looks like Boston and Washington D.C. are next in line to receive LTE coverage from AT&T — the company made the announcement during its Q3 2011 earnings call. There was no mention of when, but it should happen soon because AT&T promised LTE for 15 markets and 70 million people by the end of 2011. It's already a third of the way toward that goal, having turned on LTE in San Antonio, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston on September 18th. Right now, that LTE is only available on the HTC Jetstream tablet, a USB modem, and a mobile hotspot, but the network says it will announce and launch its first LTE handsets in the fourth quarter. It might seem like LTE is taking forever to get here, but AT&T's Ralph de la Vega says the LTE in its phones will use circuit-switched fallback, which should allow them to be thinner with longer battery life than Verizon's LTE phones — if that's true, it might be worth the wait.
