Apple's launched a pilot scheme in San Francisco today, allowing customers to collect any online purchases from their local Apple Store. Before now, customizations including hardware changes, engraving or gift wrapping were exclusively available by home delivery, but Apple's integrated the new service into the current buy and collect system. You know what that means — if something's in stock then it's ready to collect an hour after you click confirm, and if not then it'll be ready within a few days. The new service is free, and also has the added advantage of allowing you to nominate someone else to collect if you can't make it. Apple promises that the service is launching in other places soon, so we'll keep you posted when we hear more.
