Toshiba introduced the Daiseikai Voice NDR line of voice-controlled air conditioners today in Japan. Each unit comes with an IR blaster module that recognizes 26 Japanese words, and sends corresponding commands to the AC unit. The module can also turn Toshiba's TVs and LED lights on and off, which leads us to wonder if this kind of system couldn't be expanded further — perhaps as a cheap way to build a home automation system. No price has been announced, but they will be available only in Japan starting early November 2011.
