HTC today adds a second Android smartphone to its roster of Beats Audio-infused handsets in the form of the 4.7-inch Sensation XL. Bearing the red logo of Dr. Dre's Beats brand and coming with a set of either Ur Beats in-ear headphones or Solo over-the-ear cans, the XL makes an unequivocal play for the discerning music and multimedia lovers out there.

Beneath the marketing sheen, this new phone is actually a remarkable doppelgänger for HTC's recently introduced Titan Windows Phone 7.5 handset. The Sensation XL shares the Titan's Super-LCD screen technology and WVGA (800 x 480) resolution, fits within an identical 9.9mm thickness, and is powered by the same 1.5GHz processor (a single-core Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon) and 768MB of RAM. Even the 8-megapixel camera with F2.2 max aperture and dual-LED flash is an exact match, though a less fortunate congruity between these devices is that the Sensation XL lacks a microSD memory expansion slot -- all you'll get is the 16GB of embedded storage. The rear case is also similarly constructed, with an aluminum shell framed by a pair of plastic inserts, however the Sensation XL opts for a snowy white aesthetic instead of the Titan's dark grey palette.

The Sensation XL dresses up Android 2.3 with the latest version of Sense, 3.5, and comes preloaded with the Dropbox app for Android. HTC recently clinched a deal with the cloud storage provider to offer its new customers 5GB of free storage instead of the usual 2GB -- a courtesy which will be rolled out on all new Sense 3.5 phones. Pricing and launch dates haven't yet been finalized, but HTC is aiming to release the Sensation XL across Europe and Asia in early November. We hate to end on bad news, but HTC told us categorically that the XL will not be coming to the US. When asked about comparable devices making their way Stateside (the Titan is, after all, already announced to be coming to AT&T), the company chose to remind us that it's invested $300 million into Beats Audio and wouldn't have done so only to neglect the American market.
