Pandora has been making an inexorable march across car stereo decks for the past few years, but despite the large profile it's not the only streaming music game in town. Slacker Radio is joining the fray by announcing that it will offer support for the Ford Sync AppLink platform, complete with full integration with Sync's voice control system.
AppSync allows apps on Android, BlackBerry, and iOS smartphones to be controlled by the car stereo deck via Bluetooth. It's currently compatible with Pandora, Stitcher Radio, iHeartRadio, and OpenBeak. Ford intends to offer a full SDK for the system, but until it's public app selection for the platform is likely to be limited to a few, key partners. Slacker made the cut and is taking full advantage of Sync's capabilities to offer users voice control to select stations, skip songs, favorite songs, and also ban artists. The new version of Slacker with Sync support is available today for Android and BlackBerry and pending approval on iOS.
