Sony is showing off its Google TV-enabled media players in London today — which it is informally calling "Google boxes" — and has let us in on its plans to release the new hardware in the UK this summer. We saw the older NSZ-GT1 Blu-ray player on show, which should be hitting shelves around that time alongside a Google TV-capable media streamer. No word yet on whether they'll be accompanied by the two latest models introduced by Sony at CES a couple of weeks ago.

The most important aspect of this timing, however, might be that it gives us a tighter window for the launch of Google TV in the UK. Back in August, Eric Schmidt promised the Android-based entertainment platform would be launching across Europe this year, but things have been rather quiet since then. Now we know that Google TV should go live in the UK at some point between now and the summer release of the NSZ-GT1.
