Id Software's Rage for iOS set a new benchmark for smartphone games in 2010, with graphics performance that belied its low asking price. The game's HD variant has now been upgraded to version 2.0, adding HDMI output via Apple's breakout cable and an assortment of new features and bug fixes. Higher-resolution models for players and weapons should up the graphics ante even further, while an in-app purchase store will give players additional episodes to chew on (the first two additions are available in a 99-cent bundle). The game now fully supports iOS 5, and refinements to video output via VGA and component video should make living room gaming with the app an even better experience. The minimum requirements are quite reasonable for Apple's mobile line, requiring just an iPhone 3GS, third generation iPod Touch, or original iPad, but the game's no lightweight: it weighs in at a whopping 1.19GB. If you've got the time for the download, it's available now for $1.99.
