There's no name in the music industry more closely associated with the classic synth sound than Moog, but if you're an up-and-coming musician with a taste for that awesome, chunky sound, there's a problem: Moogs are expensive, and they're usually not convenient to lug around. Enter the new Minitaur, which mimics the classic Taurus analog bass synth design but dispenses of the foot pedals for a package that weighs under three pounds and could probably fit in a backpack if you had to. It retails for $679 — chump change, in the world of high-quality musical instruments — and features USB MIDI support so the unit can easily be controlled from your PC studio. Look for it to start shipping in spring.
