Fitbit just announced its Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale, the natural companion to the company's Fitbit Ultra Activity Tracker we reviewed back in October. The Aria scale communicates your weight, body fat percentage, and BMI directly to Fitbit's comprehensive health and calorie tracking website. Aria supports up to eight family members and uses "smart technology" to know who's on the scale at any given time. Data is private by default, but can be shared with the person(s) of your choosing.

Aria is another tool in Fitbit's growing ecosystem that helps people recognize trends in their health in order to make a change for the better. Having used the Fitbit Ultra, I find the additional data collected by this otherwise ridiculous sounding Wi-Fi scale alluring. Tracking the minutiae of your activity, sleep, and meals can be fascinating and the Fitbit goals are quirky and surprisingly motivational — adding weight data just feeds the compulsion. I'm just not sure I'll be motivated enough to spend $129.95 when Aria begins shipping Stateside in late April.
