It's certainly debatable whether or not the compulsive photo-sharing encouraged by Instagram is a good thing or not, but the millions of uploaded pictures can make for a useful resource. Worldcam is a great example of this — enter almost any public building in the world along with a city and you'll get a list of Instagram photos that have been tagged at that location. For instance, typing "The Verge" and "New York City" will turn up images like the above, taken last month in our office during a taping of 90 Seconds on the Verge. The results can be mixed, but it'll probably be a while before Google is able to snap interior Street View images at a level this comprehensive.
