Sprint is giving its customers access to vanity numbers for an extra $2.99 per month using a new service called StarStar Me. Users can select a five to ten digit vanity number, which can then be called by anyone on any carrier by dialing two asterisks, then the number — for example, **72724, which corresponds to the name "Sarah" on the phone's dial pad. The free StarStar Me app also allows users to silence their phones and set a response with text or other contact info, including links to social media accounts. The new service is a result of a partnership between Sprint and Zoove, a company who owns millions of these numbers. Although such vanity numbers are currently only available on Sprint, Zoove CEO Joe Gillespie told AllThingsD in an interview that the company plans to expand the service to AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile by the "first quarter of 2013, if not by the end of the year."
