wind energy, the charitable wing of Google, has made a new hire designed to help run the organization's energy initiatives and improve the company's energy use at large. Dr. Arun Majumdar was previously at the Department of Energy, where he was a founding director of the ARPA-E research group. Google has a keen interest in green energy; the company has invested in projects such as an offshore wind power transmission line, and has opened up about the energy conservation methods it employs at its huge data centers. Google hasn't gone into specifics of the projects that Majumdar will be working on just yet, but notes the need for a "new energy blueprint for the future" to bring "reliable, sustainable, and affordable" energy to everyone.
