Amazon just announced a new content deal that will bring the total number of videos available on Prime Instant Video to 15,000, but it's not stopping there: the company is now in the process of hiring at least two creative executives to help it discover, develop, and produce original series programming. Two job listings reveal the company is searching for one executive focused on children's programming and another on comedy; both would be working under the People's Production Company brand. The listings also note that a background in animation is preferred, giving perhaps some indication of what types of shows the company is considering. Amazon had previously been searching for a VP of series development, but that listing has since been removed.

Original content has become an increasingly important focus for streaming services in recent months, with Netflix closing up a deal to bring back Arrested Development as a streaming-first show, and debuting the series Lilyhammer earlier this week. With Hulu prepping new original programs and Microsoft also reportedly getting in the game, the digital battle for the living room may not be won by who can license the largest catalog, but by who can create the best shows in the first place.
