The wait's almost over, with Sony's flagship new portable console going on sale in the US at midnight tonight. Launch events for the PS Vita are being held in Sony's flagship Manhattan store, as well as in a number of GameStop locations nationwide. For tonight's event you'll be limited to the First Edition Bundle, which pairs the Wi-Fi / 3G console with a special edition hard case, a 4GB memory card, and a copy of minigame-fest Little Deviants, with the bundle priced at $349.99. You'll also get the warm glow of smug exclusivity, as everyone else will have to wait until the console goes on general release on the 22nd. While neither Sony nor GameStop mention needing to pre-order, we'd recommend calling your local store to check on stock before you make the trip.

If that hasn't whetted your appetite, what about this? Sony's just released an ad for the Vita that's headed to the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and the UAE, showing people in everyday situations dropping into the midst of a game. There might not be any glimpse of the gameplay involved, but it worked for us nonetheless.
