Sony bringing PSN accounts under the Sony Entertainment Network banner February 8th

In a recent interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, new Sony President and CEO Kazuo Hirai described some of his plans to help revive the company, including gathering the PlayStation Network under the Sony Entertainment Network brand. According to a recent email reportedly sent out to PSN members, that move will begin February 8th, when PlayStation Network accounts will be renamed Sony Entertainment Network accounts. SEN itself was originally launched as Qriocity, handling the movie and music portions of Sony's digital offerings, before being renamed last year. According to Sony's email, nothing will change about the way users' accounts work — login information will remain the same — though there will be tweaks to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy that users will have to accept. The PlayStation Portable will be exempt from the change, perhaps giving some indication of the company's future plans for the device given the pending US and European release of the PlayStation Vita. For the time being, at least, there's no indication that the PlayStation Network itself will be renamed.
