Toshiba has unveiled its 14-inch ultrabook in Australia and Singapore, officially dubbing it the Satellite U840. Your two processor options are either Intel's Core i3 or Core i5, while RAM can reach up to 8GB. For storage, you can choose between a single 128GB SSD or a hybrid hard drive with a 16GB SSD. All models have a 14-inch, 1366 x 748 display, one USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, and a backlit keyboard — all packed into a 0.78-inch thick body with weight starting at 3.5 pounds.
When we first saw this ultrabook at CES, Toshiba had been targeting a May release and a price point well south of $1,000 — which it either intends to give up on or somehow manage to hit with a bare-bones option sometime in the future. Toshiba Australia has a (fully-spec'd) version priced at $1,499.00 AUD (around $1,600 US), while reports show Toshiba Singapore is starting it at S$1,399 (around $1,040 US). If those prices haven't deterred you, Toshiba Singapore is now targeting a Q1 release date — but no word yet on when it will arrive in the US.
