Gmail's new design is sleeker and more unified, in part because there's so much less text in the interface — the new icon-based pages look sleeker and better. Apparently not everyone was enamored, though, especially users with vision problems who had more trouble distinguishing the Archive and Move icons than they had telling the two words apart. So Google's added a setting in Gmail that lets you switch easily from an icon-based toolbar to a text-based one, easily accessible in the General tab in Gmail settings. Switching to text makes the toolbar larger when you're on a smaller screen, and the page gets a little more crowded, but the toolbar options do become easier to see at a glance.
