Apparently mobile gamers like building things. Minecraft: Pocket Edition has now sold more than one million copies between Android and iOS according to a tweet posted this morning by Mojang developer Daniel Kaplan. The port originally made its debut on Sony's Xperia handset prior to being released to all Android users and eventually reaching iOS. Android Market pegs installs in the 100,000 - 500,000 range, a number likely boosted by the brief 10-cent promo Google ran back in December. While initial reactions to the Pocket Edition of the PC phenomenon were somewhat mixed, updates have since brought the experience closer to its full-fledged counterpart.

The milestone is particularly impressive when you factor in the $6.99 asking price. Clearly mobile users are willing to shell out a fair bit more than the de-facto 99-cent rate that has become standard across mobile platforms.

Update: Thanks to the commenters who specified that this announcement applies to both mobile versions.
