Who says disc-based media is dead? Certainly not Redbox — the company just announced that it has rented its two billionth disc from one of its 35,000-plus kiosks located around the country. This comes only a year and a half since Redbox rented its one billionth disc, back in September of 2010. To celebrate, the company is offering customers a free one-night DVD rental at any of its kiosks; all you have to do is enter the promo code "thanks2u." If Blu-Ray or video games are more your style, Redbox will subtract the price of a DVD rental from one of the other options. Considering the fact that it took Redbox eight years to reach one billion rentals and only 18 months to notch the next billion, it feels like consumers won't be moving strictly to streaming or downloading movies any time soon.
