The Doraemon's Bell x Casio Exilim EX-Z3000 is based on the 16-megapixel, 8x zoom EX-Z3000 that came out last year, but features popular manga character Doraemon both on the outside and in — you can use the camera's touchscreen to create animated "dynamic photos" with Doraemon characters.

It's obvious to all that the point-and-shoot camera's days are numbered — even point-and-shoot camera manufacturers. After all, it's difficult to compete with the increasing quality of smartphone sensors and lenses, especially when you factor in the wealth of camera apps (perhaps you've heard of Instagram) that have the potential to take photos beyond dull snapshots. How can compact cameras compete? Well, if you're Casio, you re-release a model from last year and give it the ability to stick anime characters in your pictures.

The snappily-named Doraemon's Bell x Casio Exilim EX-Z3000 is based on the 16-megapixel, 8x zoom EX-Z3000 that came out last year, but features popular manga robot cat Doraemon both on the outside and in — you can use the camera's touchscreen to create animated "dynamic photos" with Doraemon characters. Of course, you could theoretically do the same thing with a smartphone app, but we couldn't find a similar one on the Japanese App Store. Still, at a price of ¥29,800 (about $368) we're not sure this will find its way on to many Japanese kids' holiday gift lists. It's available to pre-order now, and is expected to ship in early June.
