Google has announced an end to its ebook reseller program — which gives independent book stores the ability to sell Google ebooks from their own sites — due to a lack of interest. In a blog post, Google's director of digital publishing Scott Dougall explained that the program "has not gained the traction that we hoped it would" and that "it's clear that the reseller program has not met the needs of many readers or booksellers." Google will still sell ebooks through the newly revamped Google Play market, and says it will continue to work with its partners as they transition away from the reseller program. And if you happened to buy a book through the program this news won't have any effect on your purchase. Google is also giving partners plenty of time to find other options — the program won't officially be discontinued until January 31st, 2013.
