Sony has announced a refresh of its VAIO S Series laptops, along with a pair of new E Series models. The S Series will come with a choice of 13.3- and 15.5-inch displays; the 15.5-inch model has a 1080p IPS screen, while the 13.3-incher doesn't have its resolution specified — we're going to go ahead and assume that, like the previous generation S Series, it'll max out at 1600 x 900. The larger model will feature a 22nm Ivy Bridge Core i7-3612QM 2.1GHz quad-core processor, 8GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GT 640M LE discrete GPU, alongside Intel's HD Graphics 4000 integrated chip. There's a generous 1TB of storage on board, along with Bluetooth 4.0, two USB 3.0 ports, a single USB 2.0 port, and a 1.31-megapixel webcam. Both models will have SSD storage options.

The 13.3-inch model is a bit of an enigma at present, but one thing known for sure is that it will arrive with a choice of Core i5 and i7 processors. Sony will sell a sheet battery add-on for both laptops that offers up to 14 hours of battery life, along with a docking station that features a 500GB hard drive. The additional storage can be used to automatically back up your data or used as a standard external hard drive.

The VAIO E Series 15- and 17-inch models will join the recently announced 14-inch, and are listed as powered by a Sandy Bridge Core i5-2450M processor paired with 6GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 7650M graphics card — we're sure other configurations will be available. The E Series laptops are relatively low-end — the 15-inch model has a 1366 x 768 display, and the 17-inch a 1600 x 900. Both come with a 750GB hard drive, and while the 17-inch model has a Blu-ray drive, the 15 is stuck with a DVD combo unit.

Sony hasn't provided release dates or pricing for either line, but the current E Series 14 starts at $459.99, the S Series 13 at $749.99, and S Series 15 at $979.99, and we expect prices to be in line with the older models.
