Google has been taking Street View off-road for some time — offering users effortless glimpses into special areas like backcountry national park trails and famous landmarks — and the company is now tying those efforts together with a more formal service called the World Wonders project. Google's included 132 historic sites from 18 countries, "including Stonehenge, the archaeological areas of Pompeii, and the ancient Kyoto temples." It's also included areas of natural wonder including Yosemite National Park. Google is tapping Street View to offer virtual tours for each site, as it has in the past with similar individual tours, and is also tying together 3D models, YouTube videos, and official photographs from partner organizations for a number of the sites.
