After years of third-party apps imitating its signature instant cameras and one poorly received app of its own, Polaroid has released a new app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch called Polamatic. Available now on iTunes for $0.99, Polamatic provides users with 12 photo filters and 12 authentic frames, which were scanned from new and vintage films used by actual Polaroid cameras. While the app won't allow you to shake or blow on the photos after they've been captured, you can add your own custom text using 12 different fonts. Once the preferred combination of filters, frames, and text is selected, you can upload your photos directly to social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and even Instagram. Like Hipstamatic, Polamatic offers additional filters and frames as in-app purchases. Currently, the app is available only for devices running iOS 5.0 and above, and the company has not commented on whether or not it plans to offer it on other platforms.
