Hot on the heels of versions 4.1 and 4.1.1, read-it-later service Instapaper has been updated to version 4.2 on iOS. The main upgrade this time around is an iBooks-style page-turning animation that developer Marco Arment claims is smoother than the Kindle app on the new iPad — sure enough, we tried it out and it's incredibly responsive. Kindle on iPad often stutters and takes a while to react to your gestures in this mode, so it's good to see that Arment has cracked the code, so to speak. Other additions include a sepia reading mode that some may find easier on the eyes, a rewritten Fast Pagination mode, and a few other UI tweaks and improvements. Instapaper remains $4.99 in the iOS App Store.
Now I can finally brag about how proud I am that Instapaper's pagination animation is smoother than the Kindle app's on the iPad 3.
