Reports have been swirling that Apple will finally drop Google Maps and introduce its own mapping solution at WWDC '12, but Google apparently has its own big mapping announcement in store. We just received an invite to a June 6th event at which the company will introduce "the next dimension of Google Maps" — between the tag line and the image on the invite (above), it seems likely that Google will introduce some new 3D mapping features. We don't know if it'll be for the browser version of Google Maps or if this will focus more on Android's mapping software, but this announcement could one-up whatever Apple has planned for iOS 6 before it even gets to introduce it. We'll be in attendance next week to see exactly what Google has in store for its users.
